I think it’s safe to say that sometimes in our lives we find ourselves in ruts of going along with ‘the crowd’. Like when there’s a really popular tv show on tomorrow night, you’re not really into it but you know that if you don’t watch it you won’t be included?
Yeah. And while I’d like to say that those situations only happen in high school, I’m pretty sure they happen all throughout life (maybe not all with TV shows though).
So today we’re talking about choosing yourself because you’re about to set sail on a writing journey where you need to be a little selfish sometimes. Not everyone will understand why you’re doing a month long writing challenge, but they don’t need to.
I get really frustrated when I’m committed to something and others that are going to do the same flake out last minute. Once I’m committed to something I’m committed. I don’t back out for a better offer. This attitude should apply to Camp NaNo. You’re committed. Don’t push it off for a tv marathon or a weekly dinner date with friends.
Choose yourself, but also choose your writing. This challenge is the quickest way to find out if you’re a serious writer or if you’re just a dreamer. I think the most important thing to remember is that backing out one time only gives you more strength and reason to do it again.
Don’t be a quitter. Also, don’t be coerced to quit by outside forces.
Set reasonable goals. Keep up a good attitude. Choose yourself.
I think I’ve said my piece. What’s next is the big event. Prepare yourself and get ready for one heck of a ride.
