How to Get in the Writing Mood

I think that in order to do something that is ‘optional’ you need to be in the mood to do it. For instance, I don’t write blog posts because I have to, but because, to a certain extent, I want to.

Writing a piece of work also requires this level of commitment. I think that writing is a blessing but also some days it is a curse. Let me tell you, when I’m on like day 18 of NaNo WriMo the odds that I actually want to write that day are very very very low.

However, and I’ve said this before, it’s worth it in the end.

Okay, so anyways my number one tip for getting into the writing mood is to: take a break from writing. Yeah, you read that right. I swear, if I take a week off from writing I’m always ready to get back into my story.

Even hobbies can require breaks, so don’t feel weird or stressed about putting down your pen for a bit.

So: if you’re feeling a little bummed because you’re starting to hate writing and it’s not feeling fun for you anymore, forcing yourself to write more is not the solution.

Take a little break, watch a movie, and get back to writing when you actually get excited about writing again.

Happy Writing!
